Probably the most common question I receive from people who know I’ve written a book about motor oil is, “What engine oil viscosity should I use for my …?”
There is ALOT of confusion out there regarding this issue, and with good reason. Viscosity is actually much more complex than many people think. Even many people who THINK they understand lubricant viscosity haven’t the foggiest clue what they are talking about. They learned what they know from Uncle Joe, who may have been a great mechanic, but he didn’t know a hill of beans about oil.
Whether you’re considering running petroleum oil or synthetic oil in your vehicles, using the correct viscosity is important and can have a positive or negative affect on your engine longevity and fuel mileage, which can be a delicate balance. The video below should help cut through the mystery a bit, although getting a copy of my book will answer FAR more questions than this single video could.
