It is becoming more and more common these days to see vehicle manufacturers offering free maintenance programs for their vehicles. Of course, just what maintenance is offered free varies from one OEM to another and from one year to another. But, one thing is clear, vehicle manufacturers realize that one of the issues that many new car customers most fear is the maintenance costs that often accompany the purchase of a new car.
By alleviating those fears, manufacturers are, obviously, hoping to increase their overall new vehicle sales during a time when economic stagnation has tanked new vehicle sales numbers. A case in point is a recent free maintenance program being introduced by Jaguar in 2011. “Jaguar Platinum Coverage” will offer 5 year/50,000 mile coverage for scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance. It will cover oil changes, filters and basic wear and tear parts such as brakes, fluids and wiper blade inserts.
The question is, are these free maintenance programs a “good deal” for consumers?
